DrV's 5-minute VIDEO Review and Contextualization of European J Clinical Nutrition 2021 July (Guven and Gultekin) and the Dunning-Kruger effect
Here is the Dunning-Kruger effect personified in research: the authors were too incompetent to see that they were incompetent, but they considered themselves innovators
Summary: This fraudulent misleading unethical research demonstrates the Dunning-Kruger effect, whereby some people are too incompetent to realize that they are incompetent.
Publication: European J Clinical Nutrition 2021 July
Population: 175 Cv19 pts, with vD deficiency, in ICU
Action: single 300,000 IU bolus of vD3
Effect: slightly worse survival by one day with vDbolus
Summation: This study design is stupid and unethical and should not have been approved and should not have been published
DrV: The authors state proudly that their study “was performed for the first time in the literature” but failed to realize that the reason they were “the first” is because all previous data forecasted that megabolus would fail or worsen the situation and this is exactly what happened. Furthermore, other studies were very similar; thus these authors are just plain ignorant of the literature, then they judged themselves to be innovators, ie, Dunning-Kruger effect
The Dunning-Kruger effect famously describes people who are so incompetent that they fail to appreciate how incompetent they are; descriptive video and full page of the original research are provided below.
