Health Homework (23) Enjoy an activity that you are already good at but have not done in a while
Not everything has to be new and adventurous
We all seek the new and novel, but we should not overlook what is good, practical, and already-proven — especially what is good and proven within our own lives.
"So look, see the days…The endless coloured ways
Go play the game that you learnt" Nick Drake – From the Morning [VIDEO ]
I learned and played tennis when I was 16-years-old but have hardly touched a racket for the past 30+ years; this past week, my wife (who has never touched a racket) suggested that we play, so we bought the basics and reserved a court. I had the pleasure of a “new” activity and remembering the lessons from decades past, and I was further amazed that my wife could actually play quite well, even returning my deadly backhand backspin, which has been the downfall of several noblemen… and also some men who were not quite so noble.
What past activities could you revisit and enjoy anew?
You already have the motor patterns (ie, “muscle memory”), perhaps even have some of your old equipment, ready to use.
Bike, skate
Walk, run, trek, hike
Swim, canoe, kayak
Paint, music, art, crafts
