HEALTH NEWS = new ongoing series of short and quick informative notices about important information (without the deep dive)
I can reasonably argue that complexity and profundity are the accumulation and organization of simplicities and superficialities. A single report or piece of information might change everything.
“My ambition is to say in ten sentences what others say in a whole book—what others do not say in a book.” Friedrich Nietzsche
Simplistic thinking and convenient ideas are commonly the ones that lead us astray and keep us trapped. We have to think more clearly and more deeply in order to escape the routine and avoid the mental shackles that others would impose upon us or that we would impose or leave upon ourselves.
I think we all need to respect the importance of knowledge and deep thought; but at the same time we need to appreciate the importance of new information that may have importance even if it lacks profundity. A single report or piece of information might change the course of our lives.
I think that one could reasonably argue that complexity and profundity are the accumulation and organization of simplicities and superficialities. As such, none of these are necessarily exclusive categories.
Seeing that the world is overflowing with triviality, distraction and overly simplistic thinking, I’ve been hesitant and resistant to the idea of simply adding to the line of “news services” already available. But now I think that the appropriate action is to include some of these quick notices so that we may eventually enfold them into more complete images and idea constellations.
Creating a space for quick conversations
I commonly see news reports and important research that I haven’t been posting on this HealthyThinking blog/newsletter because I have sometimes thought that short reports might appear too trivial; however, I’d like to create a space in this HealthyThinking blog/newsletter where I can talk about or at least quickly share articles of interest and pieces of news but without the time and logistical and intellectual expense of having to do a deep dive on every single news item.
Of course, sometimes we need the deep dive and structured analysis; but sometimes we just need the news that either adds to or subtly shifts or completely reverses our previous trajectory.
Health News, with 3 components
For the sake of speed and clarity, I am going to call this new series “health news” which I consider to be a somewhat boring title even though it’s short and accurately descriptive. If you have a better idea for the name that’s more interesting or witty please let me know: it has to be short, accurate, and preferably 3 words or fewer.
How about “HealthNewsQuickie”? Too suggestive?
“HealthMin” sounds too much like helminth.
So my plan is that I will report on the following three aspects which I think are self-explanatory. I think that these are what we might consider to be the essential components of any piece of news.
REPORT—What they reported
ACTION—Action suggested by this news
CONNECTION—How this connects with (or contradicts) other important news
