If I may introduce myself: short biographical sketch
I am here to share knowledge and perspectives gained over the course of three doctorate degrees, publication of >30 books and >100 articles/letters, years of clinical and teaching experience
Personal introduction:
My mother’s side of the family—KENNERLY—comes from England and Wales, with the family name Kennerly being derived from the small village of Kennerleigh, located in Devon in the southwest of England. My father’s side of the family—VASQUEZ—comes from northern Spain and Colombia, with the family name Vasquez being derived from vasque/basque/bosque, which translates to “forest”, particularly as used in the northeastern Spain region known as Basque Country (País Vasco) and in the northwestern Spain region called Galicia. Of note, most of the updates to the 2014 edition were written in Bogota Colombia and Barcelona Spain; Inflammation Mastery, 4th Edition was published from San Sebastian (País Vasco) in 2016 with supporting materials produced in Tarragona (Cataluna, near Barcelona) in 2017 and in Galicia (Palmes, Ourense) at our farm from 2017-2022.
One of my earliest memories of significance was that of distinctly enjoying the kindergarten activity of “show and tell” wherein small kids were invited to talk about or demonstrate something of interest to their kiddo classmates; I remember my grandfather bringing a coin to the classroom so that I could show it and tell about it. In early grade school, I remember my 4th grade teacher Mrs Hall unfairly scolding my friend Robert for some perceived shortcoming, and from that day forward I knew that education and teaching should be about encouraging and informing, rather than scolding and manipulating. Throughout my teen years I became increasingly interested in words, writing, grammar, and books such that at the very start of my college years I was planning to become teacher of English, perhaps Literature or Grammar. I was also increasingly interested in exercise, health, and nutrition, such that one day when I first considered going into healthcare to combine my interests in teaching/writing with exercise/health/nutrition the idea occurred to me like getting hit with a bolt of lightening, and I immediately thew myself into the biological sciences, anatomy, nutrition, chiropractic, botanical medicine, naturopathic medicine, functional medicine and clinical medicine. By my early and mid-twenties, I was planning my course of graduate study while also starting to write and publish articles on metabolic diseases, nutrition, disease prevention and health improvement. I taught, lectured, learned, read and wrote as much as possible from then onward to the present.
I grew up mostly in and around Houston Texas; I’ve also lived in Gainesville Georgia (military school), Portland Oregon (chiropractic college), Seattle Washington (naturopathic medical school, teaching, my first office), Austin Texas (family medicine), Fort Worth Texas (medical school), Bogota Colombia, and Barcelona Spain.
