Today (30 Dec 2021) I downloaded the following document (dated 17 Oct 2014) from their website phe.gov/s3/dualuse/Documents/gain-of-function.pdf, but when I tried to refresh/confirm the document this morning, I could not get the page to open. Thus I have provided an original copy of the PDF here:
This original document from the verified government website admits funding GOF research and that the justification was BS and the partnering with drug companies (my interpretation) is suspect
This is an impressive document per the following:
Clear admission of funding of GOF research.
Stupid justifications for this research, for example stating that this research was justified because it advanced the understanding of natural virus infections. NO—this is incorrect. To understand natural virus infections, one must study natural viral infections. Creating a fake/amplified virus and then studying it will only enable understanding of the fake/amplified virus, not the natural virus. Thus, the “justification” for this program is bogus from the start.
Partnering with the "life sciences community" is nothing more than coverlanguage for working with drug companies, and/or the universities that are partnered with drug companies to launder drug money under the title of a university that pretends to be independent and objective.
