SPECIFIC REPLY

To be sure, we learned about fatty acid supplementation in chiropractic college (I graduated in 1996) and naturopathic medical school (I graduated in 1999) while we had zero mention of fatty acids in medical school (I graduated in 2010), but the truth is that none of our professors had a very sophisticated knowledge of the topics beyond some conversation about prostaglandins and the need to balance the absurd excess of n6FA in the western diet.

In 2004-2005 I conducted what at the time appeared to be the most comprehensive review of fatty acids therapy in clinical practice that had ever been published. Other articles may have been longer or with more citations, but none were clinically oriented and inclusive of the conversation that needed to include the beneficial n6FA.

At that time, I was also involved with product development in the nutrition industry, and we produced a comprehensive fatty acid formula that included a competent multi-source blend of n3FA, n6FA, and n9FA. At that time, only ~5 products were on the market; by now, many dozen products are available.
