Here is my copy of chapter 1, with my highlights and a few notes. The color of the highlighting in this case is not of importance, although sometimes I use different colors to signify different meanings or themes. When you see a purple line in the side margin, this is to indicate that these words are also found in the audiobook version (discussed and made available previously); I’ve listened to the audiobook so many times that I’ve memorized the parts that are in it and can distinguish it from the “new” or “un-recited” sections of the book.
The reason that I like this book so much is that it delivers much more than it promises in its title.
The title of the book gives the impression that the book is only about self-esteem, and many people will tell themselves that they don’t need to know more about this or that it isn’t their problem or area of interest—nor was it my concern when I bought the book 14 years ago.
Hey Alex, it’s Mark. I have been reformulating my practice and have been out of touch for a while. Please forgive my absence, it has everything to do with self-esteem! I’ve started reading Brandens the Six Pillars. Not sure if you’re still doing the book club virtual thing, but if you are, I would love to join if timing permits
